ABERNATHY, Betty Wallace

Betty W. Abernathy of RR 1, Covington, age 55, died Monday morning, March 1, in St. Francis Hospital at Beech Grove. She was born at Cates, May 7, 1926, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Rose Foster Wallace. January 21, 1943, she married Glay Abernathy, who survives.

  Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Covington First Baptist Church and had served as president of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Tri Kappa and Covington Women’s Club. She was employed for eight years as secretary of the Covington branch of Greencastle Production Credit Association.

  Also surviving are a son, Tony of Kingwood, Texas; three sisters, Belva Lamson of Crawfordsville, Thelma Nixon of RR 3, Kingman, and Fredia Rhoades of Decatur, Illinois; a brother, Ralph Hicks of Chicago; and three grandchildren.
  The body was taken from Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington to the First Baptist Church for funeral services this afternoon (Thursday) with Rev. Gregg Curtis and Rev. Glenn Ray Jr. officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. -s
